Biography

ALEXANDER YOUNG JACKSON, O.S.A., R.C.A., CGP
(1882-1974)
Born in Montreal. Studied at the Monument National, Montreal with Edmond Dyonnet and William Brymner and Julian?s in Paris. Went to Algonquin Park with Tom Thomson in 1914. He Painted for the Canadian War Memorials from 1917-1919. Original member of the Group of Seven. He traveled extensively in Canada including Algoma, Jasper Park, Alberta, British Columbia, the Arctic, and taught at the Banff Summer School from 1943-49. Later moved to Manotick, Ontario and then lived at the McMichael Canadian Collection in Kleinburg until his death.
