Biography
Nestled in the hills, overlooking the Bras D'Or lakes is "Gallery Ruairicroft" housing original art work by Berni Thorneycroft. Berni was born in St. Peters, Cape Breton. After living abroad and in various areas in Canada, she chose to return to the land of her Scottish ancestors.
Thorneycroft recieved her Bachelor's degree of Fine Arts at Concordia University, in Montreal. Her work belongs in private collections in Europe, America and throughout Canada. Several of her paintings are with the Atlantic Lotto permanent collection.
Berni surfaces her canvas with strong, painterly brushstrokes; her interpretation of a scene or occasion which has deeply touched her. Rendering subject matter in acrylics and oils, Berni transforms everyday objects from the mundane, to an elevated awareness which she wishes to share with viewers of her paintings. Berni states that a painting is never complete until it is seen by the viewer.
