Jim Campbell

Biography

The son of a Methodist minister, Jim Campbell was born and raised in Texas. As a young boy, Campbell was exposed to a rich Texas heritage and its multi-cultures while growing up in small towns like Eagle Pass, Bronte, Harlingen, Kerrville, Refugio, Rockport -- and in larger cities like Dallas, Corpus Christi, Bryan and San Antonio.
It was during these wonderful years that Campbell developed his affection for the people, wildlife and colors of his native state. It has been Texas that shaped his approach to drawing and painting. Campbell received his formal art training in Corpus Christi while attending Del Mar Junior College. From there he attended the Kansas City Art Institute and later the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore.
After independent studies in Europe, Campbell returned to Texas where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree. After graduation Campbell pursued careers in commercial art, photography and promotions while working for advertising agencies and newspapers throughout the country.
While working in the newspaper industry, Campbell first received national recognition as a syndicated cartoonist publishing a comic feature, The Goforth's. Campbell later received international publicity for a newspaper promotion. His big idea was to stack 52,325 rolled newspapers in front of The Pueblo (CO) Chieftain.
