Biography

Background:
Born in Muranga, Kenya, Stephen attended Thika high school and Kenya Polytechnic, before completing his B.Ed. in fine arts in 1988. He later taught for five years at Thogoto Teachers College before opening his own studio in Ngong, Kenya. He is well known to Nairobi art lovers.

Style and Medium:
Being a keen observer of life in Kenya, his paintings communicate his fascination with the people of his homeland, and his concern for issues that affect them. Mbatia uses watercolors, oils and ink on paper.

Recent Exhibitions and Shows

Mbatia has had several solo exhibitions in Nairobi, New York and Tokyo
